Our Family’s 1st Rock Climbing Adventure

Last Sunday, our family had just experienced the most amazing adventure for the longest time. We went rock climbing. All thanks to an invitation from a fellow Mummy blogger, Pam who is also a pilates student of Aloysius. When we reached the rock climbing venue, we were surprised to find out that the owner of the rock climbing wall and instructor, Chee Beng, happened to be an ex-classmate of Aloysius when they attended Uni years ago. What a small world.
Aloysius having a go.

Perfect!

It’s my turn ...

“help .... I think I can’t climb anymore."

With encouragement and perseverance, I did. It was awesome!

With Chee Beng, instructor of Beyond Academics.

We decided that Allysa should try to. And she did.

With some help from papa and Uncle Chee Beng.

My little spidey-girl.

This was how high she went. Quite a feat for a 2 yr old.
She was a little afraid and we had her hoisted down in no time.
“Good try, Allysa. Hi 5!"

Besides rock climbing, Allysa enjoyed herself with other activities there too.

she drew,
read,

rode and

played with little Calla. What a beautiful baby.
Hmm... Ally is showing her sister-ly side.
We definitely spent a very meaningful afternoon in a new adventure as a family together. And we totally dig that. Frankly speaking, it was my first time meeting the fellow Mummy bloggers (Adora, Pam and PC) and just go into a stranger’s house to climb. All apprehensiveness aside, we decide to just go and do it because we never know what we will get.

It’s nice to do something different and out of our comfort zone. Each time you overcome something you think you can’t achieve, you come out a better person.

Rock climbing is definitely a sport that puts your determination to test. It’s a both brains and brawn thing.

In the process of my own climbing experience, there are a few times I had wanted to give up. My fingers were weak and I thought I couldn’t climb up anymore. And I was a little afraid of the height too. But Chee Beng was really encouraging and it was nice to feel the trust from your belayer.

I felt I can’t let him and the others down. Most importantly, I thought again and told myself - Yvonne, you can do it if you are determined to succeed. Don’t quit on yourself!

So with all my mighty strength, I climbed to the top of the wall.

It was breath-taking. I guess I was too excited or nervous of the height, I wished I had brought the camera up instead and take a picture of the view up there.

Maybe, I should do that next time.

I believe that a family that stays active together grows together.

If you are bored of your typical way to spend a weekend, why not gathered a few friends or families and hop on over for a rock climbing adventure too? For those who do not want to climb can drop by to watch and give your support too. Unlike other schools, this is conducted in the comfort of a home. You can drop by Beyond Academics and their FB page to check out more on this one of a kind rock climbing experiences in Singapore.

We Met Barney!

Yesterday was a fruitful day indeed. And I thought I was almost dying of boredom on a Saturday.

We made a visit to my sis’s place and visited Little Jemma.

I also found out from Klessis’s twitter update that there’s a Meet and Greet Session at Changi Airport. Boy, how could we miss this?

It was a really fun experience.

“OMG!! Baaaarrrrrnnneeeeyyyyy ...... My daughter finally get to meet Barney!!”

This was what ran around my head when we saw the purple dinosaur made his grand appearance on stage. It was an emotional moment for me as a Mommy. It’s like knowing that Ally will be really happy makes me even happier.

I sweared I felt teary.

We had fun singing to Barney’s songs and Ally was even doing some clapping and stamping on spot.

This purple dinosaur sure works his charms like magic.

It was a great fifteen minutes. Now, I can’t wait for his next concert and I bet it's gonna be super-dee-duper awesome!

Growing Up

There’s this strange desire I have when I was little:

I wanted to grow up.

I wanted to grow up so that I can make my voice heard.
(source)

I wanted to grow up so that my opinions and feelings can be taken seriously.
(source)

I wanted to grow up so that I can dress up in pretty adult clothes and shoes.
(source)

I wanted to grow up so that I can bring myself to places that I want to be.
(source)

I wanted to grow up so that I can do things whenever and anytime I want to.

And I see this desire in my little Ally.

That night, it just happened. Ally put on Daddy’s socks and running shoes, pressed the gate’s handle (yes, she can do that now) and took her stroller for a walk along the corridor.

My mum was screaming her head off liked a tiger had just escape from his enclosure.

Just when I was about to run after Ally, I paused.

Instead, I ran to the room and picked up my camera.

Watching how my little girl tried to walk in her Daddy’s shoes is just amazing. It’s not an easy feat to walk in a pair of (much!) bigger and heavier shoes up and down the step. But, she did. When she fell, she just picked herself up.When the shoe dropped, she just tried to slot her foot in back again. It was just so natural. No instructions or any sort of guidance was given.

I just sat by the gate and took all these moments in.

Precious.

And, I’m so glad that I did.

Toddlers and Puppies....Different but Alike

I just read this book “My First Pet - Can I feed it?” as I was trying to preparing my lesson next week. I can’t help but agree that sometimes toddlers are like puppies.

Both are simply adorable creatures.

Both need at least a walk or two daily.

Toilet trainings are tricky but once they get it, it’s peace.

Seriously, they are the same like this.

I love to see the smile on Ally’s face when I’m back home from school. I knew she had missed me just as much as I did too.

Now that Ally is older, I love the many ways she shows her love for me affectionately : hugs, kisses, saying “ 我爱妈妈” and “I love you” before bedtime.

Life is more wonderful with a toddler's kisses and hugs.
