Weekly Recap

I thought it would be nice to start a weekly recap of what Allysa and I have done over the week. Sometimes, I am just too consumed with chores and outings that I might missed blogging about interesting happenings/discoveries that took place. And when they are over, they are forgotten. So a recap is a quick way to summarise the fun-ness we had in the week before.

Went for a date night with Aloysius. We left baby with my Mom's so we could get some coupling time (sans baby). I totally dig dates with Aloysius. It just bring back the good old feelings, allows us to be silly, have fun together; just like we always do. But of course, it has been tougher now when we are both busy with our things. His job and my babycaring. How typical but that's the reality. So it's important to make it a point to set time aside; just for us. With much enthusiasm, I planned a day of couple massages, movies and dinner at his favourite Japanese buffet restaurant. He loves the free flow of alaska crab legs. ^^ And it's always very sweet of him to do the shelling for me. Haa...I'm just too lazy for that.

And what a great way to start a week.

Scheduled a visit back to my ex-company with Allysa. My ex-colleagues had been looking forward to seeing Allysa and it was high time we pay them a visit again. The last visit was done when Allysa was about 3 or 4 months old? Allysa had a great time mingling with the kids and materials in the school. Of course, she was such a charmer as she socialised with ease and was passed around from arms to arms. My boss even volunteered to babysit while I went to grab some lunch with my mom and sister. How thoughtful. And much to my delight, I returned after an hour's lunch to a (still) happy baby! This is something that I am really proud of my baby. And that's her easy-goingness. Well, just like Mom and Dad!

Well, stayed home with Allysa and brought her down for a swim. Decided to bring out her fluffy friends in the afternoon for play. I thought it will be nice to stage some pretend play for her as I read to her and her friends.

Was hugely upset about the on-going din caused by the renovation works on level 1 and 6! Yes, TWO houses at the same time. I grabbed Allysa and headed to my mom's for some solace. We just chilled around at my mom's and headed back home when night falls. However prior to home, we decided to pop over Daddy's working place since he was ready to leave. Allysa had fun with the other uncles (aka Daddy's colleagues) at the interior designer house. And it was really comfy as we hang around the showroom. It felt just like home.

Allysa woke up to an airplane lift from Daddy. She loves such thrilling play. What a gung-ho chick! And we stayed home on Thursday. Did the usual stuffs at our play-corner and read. I blogged. She did her funny tumbling act at night when I was surfing night. Very funny. I had recorded a 5-mins video of her antic. Had actually wanted to post it up on blog but it just hang. =/ I reckon the file is too big. But it's also no fun if I edit any part of it. It will totally lose the essence of the video. Probably, I will go try and figure out something. Maybe, I will.

Oh great! Met up wiith my BFF at HV for dinner. (More story, click hereI had a blast with her as we catch up and my favourite Korean food. I am a big fan of Korean cuisine. The bbq beef, bibimbab, the seafood pancake, ginseng chicken soup and of course, the array of side dishes (Did I mention REFILLABLE?!) are my some the regulars on my order list. However, I had this beef ribs stew set that night because I love variety. The set came with potato glass noodles, pancake (Yum!), the stew, rice and side dishes. So for $30++ I thought it might be worth while. But instead, I was a little disappointed when I saw they served only 2 freaking teeny bitsy slices of pancake!

Shouldn't they have the decency to include a small print on the menu that they are not serving a full size $18 seafood pancake for a $30++ set that includes a beef rib stew? Okay, maybe I was being naive. I should have known better. But I swear I only saw the word pancake on the set, there were no sight of "2" or "slices only". And the side dishes fared badly too.

The food wasn't as fantastic as the other Korean restaurants I have visited. I still prefer my favourites from Far East Plaza and Suntec. Now, I am drooling just by the thought of it. (Awww....) Need to get my fix soon!

Went to relative's place for steamboat cum birthday celebration. Loves the vegetarian steamboat and of course, the guilt-free eating. Allysa was again, busy socialising with the adults. Oh, we took a train ride. I seldom bring Allysa on the train by myself. Well for the fact that I try to minimise carrying her due to my tendonitis and of course, it's definitely hassle-free to just hop on a cab which brings us from point A to B. For outings, I seldom bring the stroller out because we bought a freaking heavy duty that weighs 9kg. And plus baby current weight and my wrists issue, I doubt I can manage a 19kg. It's safer to deal with a 10 than a 19. Anytime.

I was surprised that my 7 months old sat (almost) throughout the 1-hr train ride. Of course, she had her fun during her 1-hour train ride by people watching, hitting on the pretty teen (no pun intended) sitting beside us and occasionally, pinching her (she has this wierd habit now) and once, trying to bite her finger too. Goodness golly! Well, pardon the teething baby. Overall, she still did well. She did kind of lose her patience towards the end of the journey. All I did was to distract her by singing and finger-playing with her. And that was easy.

So I see, it is quite nice to just recap. As I was typing out, I had quite a time just to recall events last week. And seriously, for things that happened like a couple of days ago? Pregnancy has indeed screwed my memory. I realised I forgot kids' names of my school though I used to pride myself in remembering almost all students' names while I was still working there. I think it's time for me to get more brainy food. Maybe Allysa's DHA fortified cereal.

Linky Party Saturday: Selfie Saturday

I love partipating in linky parties because it's a great opportunity to showcase your work or simply the blog itself. Besides these, you get to know new bloggy friends turn followers and vice versa. It makes blogging not just a solo affair but a blogosphere event.

As I was blog surfing on my iPhone, I came across this new linky party I saw from Selfie Magic. I thought it looks fun and I knew I have to participate in it. I jumped out of bed, got onto my desktop (and a coffee) and started blogging right away.

This week's theme is Arm's length.

TGIF

Holland Village, Singapore, brought back lots of fond memories. It's a place where I hang out (alot) during my teenage years and younger days. I had my first holiday job after my "O" levels and also other fond growing memories. Besides, it's near my Mom's, has lots of great restaurants, houses alot of arty farty finds and is a "to be seen" place for the cool ones. I love the fact that it's a great place to people watch for the chic-est inspirations of fashion trends. Simply, it's like the Hamptons of NYC.

Holland V at Night
I met up with my BFF over dinner at HV last night.

A decade and a half of friendship
We had such a wonderful time catching up over old days and friends (sans baby). It's nice to engage in some adult chats(minus baby talks) since my new identity as a stay-home Mommy. A great reminder not to forget the most important person - "Me". It was the time where I left "Allysa's Mom" at home and got "Yvonne" out of the storage for some Friday nightout (and boy! That was some serious dusting to be done on "Yvonne"). After dinner, we headed to my Mom's for Allysa.

♥ BFFs ♥

I just love the way my Mom smiled in this photo. So candid. Happiness within.
while Allysa was screaming for "freedom". ^^

Holland Village is also another place with great finds! (Did I mention this?) There it is, I saw this really cute tote of the timeless classic "Guess How Much I Love You". I am a big fan of this classic and have both the original version and the "Guess How Much I Love You - All Year Round". It's definitely one of my favourite reading time storybooks.

Classic

My new to-go bag for feeding-time stuffs like milk bottles etc ! Stylish Levi's denim tights for my cherub!
Too cute!
New addition to pool play! *Beware*

I can't say how much I had enjoyed myself last night.
Verdict: I'm definitely looking forward to my next girls' night out (soon). Whoo hoo...

My Tumble-lina

It's how funny to watch babies exploring their way into this world and developing new milestones. Of course, Allysa never fails to intrigue me with her new abilities every other day. Since Allysa has learnt to flip, she has been flipping around alot; whenever and wherever!

Last night, she was playing at her play corner while I was surfing the net. To my surprise, there she was lying on the floor the very next minute! And all these motion was done in silence. How bizarre! I couldn't help but to take shots of it. I just find it way too amusing and amazing!

And she just reminds me of those twisty magic worm toy: those wormy that just keep twisting around your hand when you hold it. ^^

Wet & Wild

Weather has been great lately in Sunny Singapore! So it is high time for Allysa to hit the pool (again). And besides this, we need an escape from the din caused by the neighbour-to-be's hacking and drilling of their new abyss. I swear the drilling had started since Monday. And today is Wednesday! Can you understand the agony we have suffered so far? But surprisingly, Allysa has adpated to the noise really well.

Allysa had gone for her first dip last December, after Christmas, while we visted Resort World, Singapore for the first time. Of course, it was perfect when Uncle Stanley gave her swim gear and trainer float as her Christmas gift too.

Inflating the float from scratch!

Her first dip!

She was rather apprehensive and cried when placed in the water. Seriously, I still couldn't figure out if she cried because she was afraid of the water or the excitement of a grandma who just thought she looks way tooooo cute (she even rallyed all her grandkids to come and checked Allysa out).

In the limelight

But almost two months later, Allysa is enjoying every bit of her pool time.

Enjoying her trainer float and water play pals!

So now, pool play has been added to Allysa's daily schedule of activities. As for me? Yes to a dip in the pool under the scorching sun (always).

Blog The Blog

Have you ever had a “sending an important document down the paper shredder” moment? When such moment happens, it sends goose bumps and chill down your spine. You shriek! You panic! And you wonder next “What the f&%* had I done?” And just yesterday, THIS happened to me.

My sis had given me a feedback on how illegible it is to read my blog on iPhone due to my blog’s background. She suggested that I might want to keep it plain so that it looks neater and easier for readers to view blog on-the-go. Seriously, I have been doing some contemplating to change my blog’s design and layout. After all, the current design and layout was put together when I just started to blog. I thought, “Not bad for a newbie!” But now as I progress, there are changes that I want to make to customize my own Beadsyy’s Diary. Now, Beadsyy’s Diary is a blog that looks off the rack. I want to inject my own style and elements (my own buttons, a new header, new pages etc) so that I can really call it my own.

So there I tried to do the unthinkable. Firstly, I (with my limited knowledge of coding) removed my blog’s background. Not too difficult as after some trial-and-error, I realized all I needed was to remove a widget (and I forgot this was how I had added the background). Then my bare looking blog looked so lifeless and cramp up, that I decided to adjust the width, fonts and realign the page elements. The initial “just removing the background” spiraled into a major blog makeover catastrophe. After hours of fixing and unfixing my blog and to my horrid, it actually gotten worse than I thought. My header was disproportionate to my blog’s template. My fonts looked awful. And the layout? Horrendous!

Goose bumps and chill went down my spine. I shrieked! I panic! And I wondered “What the f&%* had I done?” I felt sick at my stomach.

All my efforts just went down the drain and now, after trying hard to make something looked better. It actually had gotten worse! And I had to spend (more) time re-doing the fixes I did. For the moment, I thought it was my doom day. Sigh! So in the end, I sucked it up and (re)DO IT! After some meddling, lo and behold, my blog was restored to its original looks. (Relief!!!)

(Clinking glass) Okay, reflection time here! Lessons learnt especially as a new blogger with limited HTML knowledge:
1. Do not attempt to make any changes (both major and minor)without doing any backup to the current HTML code template! (IMPORTANT)
2. Saved any tutorials you learnt when designing your blog so that you can refer to when in need.
3. Research and prepare in advance (Eg: your new buttons, new fonts) what changes you want to make to your blog and STICK TO YOUR PLAN.
4. Lastly, less is more.
I'm the unclever guy on the internet.
Anyway, have a great weekend! I am hopeful for a better Sunday! And so far, it looks good. ^^
