Sick & Rainy, Busy & Happy

Allysa is struck with stomach flu bug this week. It has been worrying for us. Besides the bug, it worsened to viral fever. Fortunately, she is getting better now again. You know how a sick child can turn the whole household upside down. To make matter worse, the weather has been rainy and we are stuck indoors. It can be a challenge to keep an active and restless tod engaged at home.

I have came up with some great ideas to keep a tod busy indoors without fancy toys, TV or iPad.

Finger Painting

This is definitely a fun activity. From what I observed, Allysa enjoys exploring with the texture of the paint. Well, we weren’t so keen with the mess bit but well, that’s part of learning for a little tod. So if there’s gotta be mess, there’s gotta be. Besides finger painting, I have came across some great ideas of alternative finger painting idea - with shaving cream! Food colouring + shaving cream? I am probably going to put this idea away till she understands what can or not goes into her mouth. Yes, she tasted some blue and yellow.

Water and Food colouring Painting

My girl did attempt to paint her own lips. Wonder where she learn that from?

Practical Life Activities

Practical Life is an area of learning from Montessori. They are good for the tod’s fine motor skills development, train concentration as well as to extend on their attention span. Besides, they are made up of materials you can find right from your home which is really wonderful and economical! Besides scooping exercise and slotting coins into her piggy bank, Allysa loves zipping exercises and fiddling with lids and containers activities.

Dress Up Time

Just toss things up and let the girls go wild!

So what are some great ideas you have in your tricks bag to keep your tods entertain on a rainy day?

yv. care to share that kinda paint you are using for finger painting? i tried acrylic once... easy to wash off, but it is non-toxic. stresses me up. seen those edible paint recipes but not too sure how the colour turns out and whether the colours last.
