I have never been able to enjoy teaching with all my heart when I was a teacher myself. We all know the stress teachers face: the large amount of work, many hats to wear, challenging kids to manage and not to forget the demanding parents too and low pay. So when I was a teacher, as much as I do enjoy being with the kids, there were many times that the question “Maybe I can do .... instead of teaching.” popped into my mind.
And I did. So before I quitted my job to be a SAHM, I was working in a non-teaching job for about 3.5 years but still, in a educational facility.
And I did. So before I quitted my job to be a SAHM, I was working in a non-teaching job for about 3.5 years but still, in a educational facility.
So I had the best of both worlds : I do not need to handle kids nor do I need to answer to parents about the kids’ academic results, a mystery bump or mozzie bite that miraculously appear or mediate petty social issues in school and I get more pay than I did as a slogging teacher. Still, I get my daily dosage of sunshine laughter from the kids whenever I greet them. Occasionally, I get to help out around the classes when some teachers call in sick and this’s really fun. Playgroup class is definitely my favourite.
I think the last time I taught formally was about 4.5 years ago though I did do my internship with a famous speech and drama school while obtaining my Speech & Drama Teaching Certificate with them.
In no way did time wash away my passion for teaching. In fact, I do miss teaching alot now but I know there is no way I can leave Allysa in others' care and resume my teaching career. Nor do I want to expose Allysa to infant school as I know kids fall sick easily in such settings. My heart is definitely with my baby, right here and now. Just like how my heart went to my students when I was a teacher.
I will definitely resume teaching one day. I don’t know when. Maybe when Allysa grows older and she is capable of taking good care of herself independently; even without Mama around her?
Right now, I am contented and very blessed to be able to care for Allysa - to guide and nurture my baby to the best person she can be, to have fun and grow happily everyday.

And for those who are still teaching, A Very Happy Teachers’ Day to you because we know, teachers rock!
You. Totally. Deserve. It.
And I would like to dedicate this to all Moms who I feel are the world’s natural teachers too.
Have a blast!
